Aboard the research vessel Oceania, scientists led by oceanographer Dr. Daniel Rak conduct a hydrodynamic cruise in the Baltic Sea with the aim to measure seawater properties such as salinity, temperature, and water stratification. Since its launch in 1985, Oceania, operated by the Polish Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Oceanology (IOPAN), has carried out extensive research in the Baltic and Arctic regions. The vessel is used to carry out around 20 scientific missions annually, including a key Arctic expedition to Spitsbergen each summer. Research aboard Oceania supports critical studies on oceanographic processes and climate dynamics.
