GREEN SANDS

Since spring has arrived, Małgorzata goes down to the garden every other morning to enjoy the sun and look after her pansies and geraniums. Pansies can also be found in Dyonizy's garden, who is famous for preparing a special mixture to water his plants with. Despite the last few cold nights, Agnieszka's herbs and chamomiles are in full bloom. Marek and Jagoda come early in the morning to drink coffee here, read a book and watch the birds. The colourful patches of the Green Sands community garden have been filling the space between the residential buildings on Al. Reymonta in Warsaw's Bielany district since 2022. The garden, created as an initiative aimed at revitalising the estate and activating its residents, is currently managed by local tenants and children from a nearby kindergarten and school. The garden's function is primarily educational and recreational but it allows people living in its vicinity to be closer to nature on a daily basis. There are almost 30 official community gardens in Warsaw, most of them common spaces, open to everyone. Their unique character is the result of individual actions aimed at creating a shared, green place in a big city.
